About the Client

An Adelaide Institution Ready to Go National

Diamonds Camera is Adelaide’s specialist camera retailer, operating from Rundle Mall for over 40 years. An authorised dealer for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, and more, the store also carries one of Australia’s most extensive ranges of second-hand cameras and lenses, offering expert advice in-store and nationwide express shipping online.

The store sells digital cameras, mirrorless cameras, lenses, accessories, drones, binoculars, and second-hand equipment, both in-store in Adelaide and through its national eCommerce platform. With a loyal local customer base and a strong product range, the challenge was to convert that physical presence into genuine national online visibility, competing against large multi-location chains and national retail giants for Australia’s highest-volume camera search terms.

The Challenge

Competing Nationally from a Single Adelaide Location

Diamonds Camera needed to build a national eCommerce presence and rank for high-intent camera keywords across Australia, competing against multi-location chains, major retailers, and global marketplaces with significantly larger digital marketing budgets.

  • High keyword difficulty across camera and lens categories, with national competitors and global platforms dominating Page 1 positions for the highest-volume search terms
  • A vast product catalogue spanning thousands of SKUs – cameras, lenses, accessories, drones, and second-hand equipment — requiring careful prioritisation to maximise SEO return per dollar spent
  • Established multi-location competitors with greater domain authority and larger content teams
  • Seasonal demand fluctuations, particularly around Black Friday, Christmas, and key product launch periods, requiring proactive content and inventory alignment
  • Building national organic visibility from a single physical location, without the geographic advantage of having stores in every state
What We Did

A National eCommerce SEO Strategy Built Around the Right Products

To address these challenges, we implemented a structured eCommerce SEO strategy focused on category and product page depth, targeting commercial keywords with genuine purchase intent across Australia. In-depth keyword gap analysis identified which high-margin, high-volume product categories Diamonds Camera could realistically rank for nationally — prioritising mirrorless cameras, second-hand equipment, and specific brand and model pages over commoditised terms dominated by global marketplaces.

Category and product pages were populated with engaging, search-optimised content to improve visibility and on-page conversion. An ongoing content calendar targeted informational and research-phase queries to build topical authority and support the customer journey from consideration through to purchase. Sitemap expansion introduced new category and sub-category pages at a rate of 1–2 per month from January 2024. A consistent link-building programme delivered 3–4 guest post articles per month, acquiring backlinks that progressively strengthened the domain’s national authority.

Business Impact

A Local Legend That Now Ships to Every State

The SEO campaign gave Diamonds Camera’s 40-year reputation a national stage. By building Page 1 presence for the camera terms Australians search most – second-hand cameras, mirrorless cameras, and specific brands and models – the store now generates consistent online revenue from customers in every state, not just walk-ins from Rundle Street. With $3.6 million in website revenue tracked since 2023 and organic traffic currently valued at $146,000 per month by Ahrefs, organic search has become the single most important acquisition channel for the business’s national growth.
